Fall Tips
1. Change Your Air Filter
Why: A clogged filter restricts airflow, making your system work harder and less efficiently.
How Often: Every 1–3 months depending on use, pets, and allergies.
2. Clean and Clear Vents
Vacuum dust and debris from vents and registers.
Ensure furniture and rugs aren’t blocking airflow.
3. Check and Clean Outdoor Unit**
Remove leaves, twigs, and debris.
Trim back plants at least 2 feet around the unit.
You can loosely cover your out door unit if it is only used for AC, to keep out debris, but NEVER cover it tightly
4. Test Your Thermostat
Switch to heating mode and make sure it responds.
5. Schedule a maintenance!
Fall is the best time for a pre-winter furnace tune-up!
**Keeping leaves and debris away from your outdoor HVAC unit is important because:
Improves airflow: Blocked airflow makes your system work harder to heat or cool your home.
Prevents overheating: Debris can restrict air around the condenser, causing the unit to overheat.
Protects the coils and fan: Leaves, grass, and twigs can clog the coil or interfere with the fan.
Improves efficiency: A clean unit uses less energy, which can help lower utility bills.
Reduces wear and repairs: Extra strain can shorten the system’s lifespan and lead to costly breakdowns.
Prevents pests and moisture problems: Accumulated debris can provide shelter for insects and rodents and trap moisture around the unit.
Tip: Keep roughly 2 feet of clear space around the outdoor unit and regularly remove leaves, grass clippings, and other debris.
